1. Add Automation
Automation increases production and efficiency no matter the type or complexity of the manufactured product.
Even though many different industries are seeing the benefits of adding automation to their operations, smaller machine shops have been reluctant to make an initial investment in robotics. However, with the growing availability and affordability of flexible collaborative robots (cobots), more operations are becoming interested in this type of automation, especially for high-mix, low-volume applications.
Labour and even floor space can be at a premium in many smaller shops, so machine tending industrial robots and cobots that are reliable, easy to integrate, and have a smaller footprint are becoming popular. Adding cobots, robots, and software that can be easily connected improves throughput as well as OEE.
2. Use Advanced Machining Practices and Technology
Many manufacturers leave machine performance on the table because they have outdated programming software and processes. It’s important to know that they are getting the most out of their machines.
The advantages of a new machine include new computer numeric control (CNC) technology. Because new CNCs have greater processing speeds and can implement advanced algorithms, they can do a lot more for an operation than their older counterparts.
3. Digitalize the Machining Process
New digital tools are breathing life into more areas of manufacturing than ever before, including the application of digital twins in the machining industry.
